When the weather starts to cool down, I turn to soup for lunch or dinner. My recipe index has tons of recipes for gluten free and dairy free soups, but I thought I would highlight a few of my favorites in this post. Whether you like creamy soups, or soups with lots of beans or meat, or lighter soups, there’s sure to be something here for you to try!
Soup is a great option for a nice Sunday dinner or even a gathering with friends. You can double or even triple these recipes if you’re feeding a crowd!
What kind of broth should I use?
If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, you know that broth can be a tricky ingredient. You can always make your own stock from scratch – that’s one sure way to know that a broth or stock is safe for you. There are many brands of stock out there. One brand to look into is Kitchen Basics, which is made by McCormick, and has a thorough allergen statement on the packaging.
As always, please research any ingredients to make sure that they are safe for your particular needs.
Black Bean and Ham Soup – This is a hearty bean soup for a chilly day. Black beans are a great source of protein, and the ham in this recipe adds a ton of flavor. This is a great soup to make when you’re trying to use up leftover ham.
Lighter Chicken Pot Pie Soup – This chicken pot pie soup is full of veggies, tender chicken, and a flavorful broth. It’s a bit lighter than the traditional recipe because it doesn’t have heavy cream or butter. If you want to top it with something, try gluten free garlic bread crumbs.
White Bean and Potato Soup with Lemon and Dill – This is a family favorite at our house! Potatoes, white beans, and dill are the perfect combination, and the addition of lemon juice is a nice surprise! This soup is fresh and bright, and perfect for a light lunch.
Favorite Lentil Soup – Lentil soup is easy to make and a very hearty vegetarian option. If you like lentil soup, you’ll need to try this recipe! The flavors really come together as this soup simmers. You can be creative with this recipe and use whatever kind of lentils you enjoy the most.
Gluten Free Chicken Noodle Soup – If you have a cold, you’ll want to reach for this comforting, classic chicken noodle soup made with gluten free pasta. You can make this without pasta if you prefer, just adding more veggies to fill out the soup.
Creamy Dairy Free Potato Leek Soup – This potato soup is so smooth and creamy, you won’t believe it’s dairy free! Leeks add a wonderful flavor and a crumble of salty bacon on top is a nice finishing touch. Feel free to leave the bacon off if you’re vegan.
Vegan Mushroom Soup – Creamy dairy free mushroom is truly a decadent soup. This is rich, savory, and no one ever guesses that it’s gluten free and dairy free. Garlic, onion, lots of mushrooms, and some full fat coconut cream make this soup recipe a standout!
Cauliflower Carrot Soup – It always surprises me how creamy cauliflower can be! This soup is a prime example of that. Cauliflower, carrots, onions, and some curry powder make a flavorful soup that’s super cream and satisfying. This is a recipe that works well in the cold weather or the warm weather!
Fiesta Chicken Chili – The perfect recipe for a party, Fiesta Chicken Chili has something for everyone! There’s lots of flavor, lots of color, and lots of protein in this fun chili recipe! This is a party favorite, and guests always ask me for the recipe.
Slow Cooker Wild Rice Soup – This soup just says fall! Wild rice, chicken, and veggies simmer in the slow cooker all day long to produce a wonderful, filling soup that’s free of the top 8 allergens. You can modify this recipe if you like – add some squash, some different herbs, or even some sausage if you want a bit of a different flavor. This is a versatile soup that you’ll turn to again and again.
Creamy Tomato Basil Soup – Bursting with fresh flavor, this creamy tomato soup is the ideal way to use up those garden tomatoes. Making tomato soup with fresh produce results in a flavor that’s bright and vibrant. Serve this wish crackers or fresh bread for an easy, allergy friendly, lunch or dinner.
Vegan Tortilla Soup – A simple soup for a busy day, this tortilla soup comes together in just minutes! This is a light soup that goes well with guacamole, chips and salsa, or cornbread.
Curried Lentil Butternut Squash Soup – Cozy, fresh, and flavorful, this curried squash soup is ideal for a cold fall day. Even if you’re not a kale fan, I think you’ll enjoy this leafy green in this flavorful soup. You’ll want to have some bread or a roll to soup up the creamy broth at the bottom of the bowl!
Slow Cooker Lentil Sausage Kale Soup – This is a hearty soup that’s the perfect ending to a long day. Let the slow cooker simmer this chunky soup all day long, and then you can sit down to a delicious meal that’s filling and tasty. Use your favorite sausage (regular or vegan) in this soup and enjoy!
Rosemary White Bean Soup – If you love bean soup, you’re sure to love the addition of rosemary to this one! It’s a surprising flavor that pairs well with white beans and potatoes. This is a frugal recipe that makes a lot of soup, so it’s perfect for making a big batch and then packing in lunches all week long.
