Refreshing citrus infused water is a great drink t osip on throughout the day!

Rainbow citrus infused water is a great way to stay hydrated! Enjoy your water more when it’s infused with delicious citrus flavor.

Whether it’s summer or winter, there’s always a good reason to drink water. In the summer, we’re all hot, and dehydrated, so of course you want to drink water. In the winter, the heat and dry air makes us dehydrated, so that’s another reason to try to drink more water.

Sometimes it gets a little boring to drink plain water. You can make your water intake more exciting by drinking fruit infused water.

    What is infused water?

Infused water is what you get when you place a variety of fruit or vegetables in some water and let it sit in the refrigerator until the water becomes infused with that fruit flavor.

Is drinking infused water good for you?

As adding fruit to the water makes the taste better, it hopefully will make you want to drink more water. And drinking water is healthy, so yes, I would say drinking infused water is healthy. Will it do anything more for you than drinking plain water? I don’t know about that – any claims that infused water will help you detox or otherwise are probably anecdotal.

What fruit is best for infusing water?

I like citrus fruits in infused water. But you can use berries, cucumbers, melon, or whatever you prefer.

I used a variety of citrus in this recipe – a blood orange,  a satsuma mandarin, a lemon, and a lime. I just sliced them up and layered them in a quart size mason jar, then poured ice cold filtered water over them, and placed the jar in the refrigerator.

How long should you let infused water sit?

You can start drink it right away, but the flavor improves after it’s been sitting for a few hours. Once you drink the water, you can just add more to the jar. I find that it works to refill the jar a few times – the citrus will keep adding flavor over about 12 hours.

Can you leave fruit infused water out at room temperature?

Since this water contains fresh fruits or herbs, you do need to store it in the refrigerator.

Can you eat the fruit that you use to infuse water?

You could eat it, I guess, but it will not have much flavor since the flavor will have gone into the water. It may also be a bit mushy and waterlogged, and not very good to eat.

Adding citrus to your water gives you a nice Vitamin C boost, and lemons and oranges contain potassium as well. Blood oranges have lots of antioxidants and make the water turn a pretty pale pink. Drinking citrus infused water can help keep your blood sugar from spiking and can help reduce bloating in addition to giving your skin a healthy glow! So drink up!
