Thank goodness it’s March! Didn’t February seem sooooooooooo long this year? And we are not out of the woods yet, for sure. Here in Michigan, we will still have a good amount of cold, snowy days ahead. There are a few activities that I’ve come up with to entertain my five year old when the weather is too cold or too miserable to head outside.
1. Snowy artwork. If there is fresh snow, fill up a cookie sheet and pat the snow down nice and flat, then let your child color on it with markers.
2. Indoor Scavenger Hunt. Have an elaborate scavenger hunt with your child. Be creative with your items…a fruit that is red, a musical instrument, three green vehicles, two things to write with, something that starts with the same letter as your name, make a number out of Legos….whatever you can think of that makes them use their mind and be actively involved in the hunt.
3. Salt Snow Box. If you don’t have real snow, fill a plastic bin with salt, and let your little one build a snowy scene with teeny trees and other details. Then they can drive their vehicles through the blizzard-like conditions.
These activities have helped us get through the long winter. What do you do with your kids to make the winter days go faster?
