Yesterday was Darryl’s birthday! We had a great day celebrating a wonderful husband and father. We had cake and ice cream and he and I even got to go out on a date! Rare and very nice to spend time alone with him.
As we celebrated Darryl’s birthday yesterday, we both thought of the young mother who carried Darryl…a fifteen year old student, who did not receive prenatal care until she was in a skiing accident when she was a several months pregnant. We are so grateful for God’s hand of protection over Darryl in her womb. We are so grateful that this young lady had parents who supported this pregnancy being carried to term even though it was a disruption to her schooling and social life. What if she decided to have her unwanted pregnancy “taken care of,” hushed up, and swept under the rug? We are so thankful that God had a plan for Darryl, and that plan was life, and being adopted into a family that loved him.
As a Christian, I am pro-life. I believe that life starts at conception, that every life has value and that abortion is wrong and against God’s will. And as the wife of someone who could have easily been disposed of by an abortion in the seventies, I am even more aware of the value of life and grateful for those who choose to carry their unplanned babies to term and give them up for adoption.
I am so grateful that Darryl’s birth mother chose life, because if she didn’t, he wouldn’t be here, and I wouldn’t have the privilege of being married to this wonderful man.
It seemed fitting to have today’s Faithful Friday printable be of this verse from Psalm 139:
