Place the red lentils in a sauce pan with enough water to cover them by one inch.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium low.
Cook until soft, about 15-20 minutes.
If there is any excess water left, drain it off.
Add the spices, and stir.
Use an immersion blender to puree the dip until it's fairly smooth. If you don't have an immersion blender, you could also mash the lentils with a fork.
Serve dip warm with crackers, chips, or veggies.
Notes
Store leftover dip in the refrigerator. It should stay fresh for about 3 days.
