Ingredients

cups
dried beans
any mixed bean blend will work
22
ounces
Italian style tomatoes

large onion
chopped
1/2
pound
ham
chopped
1
teaspoon
sugar
1
teaspoon
lemon juice
1
teaspoon
chili powder
1/4
teaspoon
pepper
Instructions
Soak dried beans overnight. In the morning, drain them and put them in a large pot along with 2 quarts water and the ham.
Bring to a boil, then simmer for three more hours.
Add all other ingredients, plus more water if needed. Simmer for at least one hour more.
Serve with warm bread and butter, or a green salad for a delicious meal.
