Pennsylvania Nine Bean Soup.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ¼ cups dried beans any mixed bean blend will work
  • 22 ounces Italian style tomatoes
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • ½ pound ham chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper

Instructions
 

  • Soak dried beans overnight. In the morning, drain them and put them in a large pot along with 2 quarts water and the ham.
  • Bring to a boil, then simmer for three more hours.
  • Add all other ingredients, plus more water if needed. Simmer for at least one hour more.
  • Serve with warm bread and butter, or a green salad for a delicious meal.
