Instructions

Make the barbecue spice rub:

  1. Combine all dry ingredients in an airtight jar.

  2. Shake or stir to mix well.

Grill the chicken:

  1. Preheat the grill to medium heat.

  2. Place the chicken drumsticks in a large bowl and pour the olive oil over them. Toss to coat.

  3. Sprinkle the seasoning over the drumsticks. Use your hands to evenly distribute the seasoning, pulling back the skin and making sure some spice rub gets under the skin.

  4. Let the chicken sit with the spice rub on it for about 10 minutes.

  5. Place the seasoned chicken legs on the preheated grill. Cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes, turning once.

  6. Put the heat to low, and continue to cook for about 30 minutes, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 175 degrees when read with a meat thermometer.

  7. Remove the chicken from the grill, and let it rest for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Serving size is 2 drumsticks with barbecue seasoning and olive oil.

You can make this blend ahead of time and store in an airtight jar in a cupboard or pantry. This seasoning blend should stay fresh for about 2 months in an airtight container.

The brown sugar may make this spice rub clump together. Just use a knife to break it apart.
