We love to make ornaments over here, and with a five year old, most of them involve a lot of glitter, paint and felt in lots of bright happy colors. Which is of course fine, and perfect for where we’re at right now.
But I found these pretty laser cut frames at Michael’s and they seemed to want a nice subdued “grown-up” treatment, so after thinking a little bit, this is what I did.
You will need:
laser cut wooden frame ornaments (I got mine at Michael’s)
craft paint
water
glue
a fine point pen
white card stock
1. Make a paint wash: Â in a little cup, mix a bit of water with a bit of paint until you get the desired level of color. For my shade of aqua, it was a small squeeze of paint with about a tablespoon of water.
2. Brush your paint wash all over both sides of the frame. Â Let dry.
3. Â Cut a small strip of card stock. Â I cut it in a wavy shape, just a slight little curve. Â Then roll the ends up like a scroll.
4. Â With your pen, (I used a fine point Sharpie), write a word or message on the card stock. Â Some of my other ones are going to say, “cheer,” “hope,” “glad tidings.”
5. Affix the paper banner to the frame with a little tacky glue once the paint is dry.
Hang on the tree and enjoy! Â They come with twine for hanging, but you could remove that and put ribbon or yarn or baker’s twine in it’s place.
So very easy, and very pretty! Â Two of my favorite qualities when it comes to a Christmas craft. :)
What crafts have you been making this Christmas?
Linking up with the Nester’s Christmas Craft Party, and some of these parties.
What a fun way to dress up those wooden ornaments!
So sweet!
This is brilliant! I love the low-keyness of it (it’s English, we can make up words, right?!). Though with a 5 year old I suspect you have a ton of more in your face Christmasy ornaments too :)
Oh my this is beautiful!
so sweet i love it, it would be great if you came and shared it at my linky party at http://www.twiggstudios.com/2012/12/sunday-show-off-linky-party_8.html
