Felt and Button Christmas Ornaments.

Oh, hooray, it’s Christmas time again…let the crafting commence!

An easy DIY Christmas project - felt and button ornaments.

No, we don’t have our tree yet, thanks for asking, but I’m not going to let that stop me! I have the tiny tree plugged in and these little ornaments have a temporary home until the big tree arrives!

We’ve been making ornaments like crazy over here, and this one might be my favorite, although I was partial to the birdies as well. I had some felt left from the wreath I made and I also had a lot of loose buttons, so I made up a few little felt ornaments for the tree. (Which we don’t have yet, as I mentioned. Tomorrow I hope!)

You will need:
-felt
-embroidery floss
-ribbon
-buttons
-some sort of stuffing (I used cotton balls)

how to make felt heart ornaments

Step 1: Cut out two hearts.

Step 2: Sew a button on one heart.

Step 3: Sew the hearts together with a simple stitch. At the top, stick the ribbon in and keep stitching to secure.

Step 4: When you get about ⅔ of the way done, stuff with cotton balls.

Step 5: Keep stitching the rest of the way around. When you get to the end, tie a little knot and conceal it.

Step 6: Hang on the tree!

For the tree, I cut two triangles and used five colorful buttons. I’m trying to think of other shapes to do…maybe a snowman or a stocking?  Any suggestions?

I just made my first felt ornament a couple of weeks ago…it was a mitten with my daughter’s initial embroidered! Thanks for the cute ideas…these would make great starter projects for a beginner like me ;)

You lost me at “sew a button on”, but they are darling. Maybe you could do a wreath, and sew the inner and outer circles? That would be cute too with a few buttons on it.

Haha..my word verification is “chiggere”. Where do they come up with these? :)
