Creamy dairy free chip dip is full of flavor and just the thing for dipping salty, crunchy potato chips!
My Grandma Tootsie was my mom’s mom. and she has been gone for 18 years now. She was a hair dresser, she loved to play the lottery, she taught me how to play Solitaire, (and double Solitaire!), she loved crosswords, she loved to drink Coke, she was a great cook who made delicious pierogies, she was extremely generous, and she really loved us.
Her chip dip recipe was a favorite of ours, and it had a secret ingredient – a spice blend called Beau Monde. I’m told that when I was just little, she was making a batch of chip dip, and saying the words “Beau Monde” in a silly voice and that made me crack up.
Beau Monde is a spice blend that’s super hard to find, but I found out that it is basically garlic powder and celery salt. So I adjusted her recipe, and the taste is very similar! This dip has a kick from fresh garlic and onions, and it’s addictive!
Is there anything better than dipping salty, crispy chips into a bowl of creamy, garlicky dip?
The recipe for this dairy free chip dip is super simple. I substituted dairy free milk and cream cheese, but we used to make it with full fat cream cheese and regular milk.
If you eat dairy, you should definitely make this, because it’s amazing. It turned out very well with the non-dairy alternatives, too! I do love that Daiya makes such a creamy cream cheese substitute.
This dairy free chip dip is:
- easy to make in a hurry
- perfect with chips or crackers
- delightful with fresh veggies, too!

Sometimes the question comes up about which brand of potato chips are safe for food allergies. I can’t speak for all allergies, but Cape Cod potato chips had a very thorough response when I contacted them regarding tree nut, peanut, and sesame allergies. Please contact them regarding your specific allergies and their current protocol.

Would this keep in the fridge for awhile ? Kind of a make earlier in the week and have a little treat throughout the week. Struggling with my new allergies gluten and dairy … trying to find ways to enjoy food and not feel so depressed about it. Thanks!!
Kelly Roenicke
Yes, I would say this should stay fresh for 5 days.
Sarah
What could you substitute the onion with for those who can’t have onions?
Kelly Roenicke
Chives would work!
connie
Shallots. I’m allergic to onions & when I found this out, I was crushed. Asked the Allergist what to use and he said shallots. Haven’t had a problem at all and it’s been about 5 years now. Good luck
karen
i am looking at your recipe for dairy free dip it has cream cheese. isn’t that dairy?
Kelly Roenicke
I used Daiya, which is a vegan brand of cream cheese. If you have another vegan cream cheese that you use, feel free to substitute it!
Pamela
Some people never cease to amaze me, DAIYA cream cheese, geez! Educate thyself before you criticize a recipe.

Yes! I used to LOVE chip dip! My grandmother would make it like this or sometimes add in canned clams <— weird but oddly delicious when I was a kid :) Love that you've made a healthier version!
Kelly
Canned clams! That is an unusual ingredient!

I think I’ve seen Beau Monde on the spice rack but haven’t tried it. I’m sure your grandmother would be pleased with you! :)
Kelly
Thanks, Lydia!

I love chip dips, especially ones like these. I know I’ve heard of Beau Monde- I think my mother has mentioned it before- but I’ve never used it, so this might be something to give a try. Looks great!
Kelly
I hope you like it! :)

Grandma Tootsie sounds like my kind of people! Memories with loved ones are so valuable and it sounds like she had (and continues to have) an amazing effect on your life. There’s nothing like the love and support of family!

I haven’t heard of that spice mix. I didn’t know Daiya had a cream cheese now either. I will have to add this to my DF recipes.
