If you’ve been wanting to try Crumbl cookies, but can’t due to food allergies, this is the recipe for you! Thick, rich, and loaded with chocolate chips, these decadent cookies are just right for chocolate lovers!

When you have food allergies, you often can’t try out the local bakery or cookie shop. I know in our area, a popular shop is Crumbl cookies. This chain is known for its thick, decadent, uniquely flavored cookies.
Because there are so many allergens in this shop (as in most bakeries), we aren’t able to eat these cookies, so I decided I would try to make my own versions so my son can try them.
These double chocolate cookies are modeled after the Crumble Dark Dream Cookie. They are thick, chewy, rich, and chocolatey, and they’re made without any of the top allergens! I think you’ll love this dessert – it’s a real treat!

Ingredient Notes
- Gluten Free Flour Blend – I used my trusty favorite – Namaste Perfect Flour Blend. It works really well for cookies! These had a great texture, and didn’t spread out too much.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – We like Hershey’s Unsweetened Cocoa Powder, but you can use any brand you like that works for your needs.
- Vegan Buttery Spread – Earth Balance Soy Free Vegan Buttery Spread works well for these cookies.
- Dairy Free Dark Chocolate Chips – We love Enjoy Life Dark Chocolate Chips. Chocolate chunks would also work very well.
- Sugars – Wholesome Organic Sweeteners are vegan and work well in this recipe.
Step by Step Instructions
- Cream together the sugars and the vegan buttery spread, then mix in the applesauce.

- Add the dry ingredients to the bowl.

- Mix well – the dough will be thick.

- Stir in the dairy free dark chocolate chips.

- Scoop the cookies onto a cookie sheet that’s been lined with parchment. Lightly flatten them with your hand.

- Bake at 350 degrees F for 13-14 minutes. Don’t over bake or they will be dry.

Storage
Store leftover cookies in an airtight container. They should stay fresh for up to 5 days.

These look good but I’m allergic to chocolate but I might try carob powder and carob chips. I haven’t had chocolate for so long, carob taste like it to me. I’ll have to try a different gluten free flour too as I can’t have rice flour. It’s complicated. Glad you found something for your son. I don’t think we have that cookie place here in the NW. I haven’t heard of it.

Let me know if you try the carob! That sounds like a good idea.

I want to try so many of your recipes, but having IBS makes apples a no-go. Are you substituting apple sauce for an egg?
Kelly Roenicke
Yes, applesauce is in place of an egg! An egg should work well.

These were great!
