Delicious, creamy, and rich, this cherry chocolate avocado mousse is a tasty dessert that’s dairy free and vegan! This is quick and easy to make, and perfect for the summer months.

I have a picky eater in my family, so I try to sneak extra fruit or vegetables into some of my recipes.
I have hidden good for you ingredients in black bean brownies, sweet potato cookies, chocolate lentil muffins, and now this avocado mousse.
Most people won’t be able to tell that this isn’t a regular pudding – it just tastes really smooth and delicious, as a decadent dessert should.

Tips for Success
- pick avocados that are ripe but not overripe
- blend well using a food processor or powerful blender
- eat immediately – the flavor is the best right away
Ingredient Notes
- Avocado – A good avocado will be soft, with a mild, buttery or slightly nutty flavor. It should not have any brown streaks or spots inside. This article has great tips about how to pick a good avocado.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – We use Hershey’s Unsweetened Cocoa Powder. You can use any brand that works for you.
- Maple Syrup – We like pure maple syrup in this recipe, but you could use honey or agave syrup if you prefer.
Step by Step Instructions
- Place a perfectly ripe avocado, maple syrup, cocoa powder, and non-dairy milk in a food processor.
- Process on high speed until smooth.
- Taste and add more sweetener if desired.

Storage
I recommend eating this dessert right away. I haven’t had much success with storing this mousse – I find that the avocado flavor gets stronger the longer it sits.

I added about 1/3 cup of coconut cream and found that the avocado flavor was entirely hidden, even after a night in the fridge. Delicious, easy recipe, thank you!

Is it necessary to use non-dairy? We do not have any dairy sensitivities, but am curious if milk negatively interacts with the avocado.

You can use dairy milk!

Aaaaah this is brilliant! I’ve been meaning to whip up a big batch of chocolate (avocado) mousse to quench my undying chocolate hankering every single night, and adding fresh cherries would be just spectacular. Bravo!

Adding cherries to this chocolate avocado mousse is just brilliant! I will admit that I haven’t yet tried avocado in dessert. Recipes like this one make me want to, though!
