Delicious, creamy, and rich, this cherry chocolate avocado mousse is a healthy and tasty dessert! Full of good fats and nutrients, this is a great dessert to enjoy when you’re trying to make healthy choices.
When you’re trying to cut down on the amount of sugar in your diet, but you still love sweet treats, it’s time to get creative in the kitchen. I love a good secretly healthy dessert.
That’s why this chocolate avocado mousse is so good – it’s chocolatey, rich, and delicious, but it’s secretly full of healthy fats.
Most people won’t be able to tell that this isn’t a regular pudding – it just tastes really smooth and delicious, as a decadent dessert should.
I know that some of you are all about avocado based desserts, and I know that some of you just are not. I hear you.
I too, have had bad avocado desserts before – it’s the worst! But I think there are two things going on here. Either the avocado started to go south, and was overripe before it was made into a dessert (yuck), or it was picked too early. Once in a while I will get a kind of strong tasting avocado, and after some searching, I read that the reason is that the avocado was just picked way too early.
A good avocado will be soft, with a mild, buttery or slightly nutty flavor. It should not have any brown streaks or spots inside. This article has great tips about how to pick a good avocado.
How do you make chocolate avocado mousse?
- Place a perfectly ripe avocado, maple syrup, cocoa powder, and non-dairy milk in a food processor.
- Process on high speed until smooth.
- Taste and add more sweetener if desired.
Can chocolate avocado mousse be kept in the refrigerator?
I haven’t had much success with storing this mousse. I find that the avocado flavor gets stronger the longer it sits. I recommend eating this dessert right away.
Can this chocolate avocado mousse be frozen?
No, freezing this avocado dessert will not work. The texture will change as will the flavor.
How do you pick out a ripe avocado?
A ripe avocado should be dark in color, and not hard or squishy. It should be firm, and slightly soft when you gently squeeze it.
When you cut it open, there should not be dark spots or streaks inside, that means that it’s overripe.
Once you blend up a perfectly ripe avocado with some cherries, cocoa powder, maple syrup, and non-dairy milk, you get a light, delicious, healthy chocolate avocado mousse. It really has such a rich and creamy texture – avocados are amazing!
Plus, this is a great way to get some healthy fats into your kiddos. They won’t guess that this mousse contains avocados.
Tips for making the best cherry chocolate avocado mousse:

I added about 1/3 cup of coconut cream and found that the avocado flavor was entirely hidden, even after a night in the fridge. Delicious, easy recipe, thank you!

Is it necessary to use non-dairy? We do not have any dairy sensitivities, but am curious if milk negatively interacts with the avocado.
Kelly Roenicke
You can use dairy milk!

Adding cherries to this chocolate avocado mousse is just brilliant! I will admit that I haven’t yet tried avocado in dessert. Recipes like this one make me want to, though!
