There’s nothing like a frosty sunbutter banana milkshake! This is just the thing for a quick snack or even a delicious breakfast. Use your favorite non-dairy milk, frozen bananas, and sunbutter to make this easy treat.

When we first eliminated dairy from our diets many years ago, we would often make milkshakes with frozen bananas. Just like making nice cream, frozen bananas are a great way to make a creamy frozen dessert without dairy.
Before we had nut allergies, we would always make this milkshake with peanut butter. Then nut allergies came into our lives, and we had to adjust this recipe by making it with sunbutter. I’m happy to say that it’s still delicious! This is a quick and easy recipe to try – it’s practically foolproof.

Ingredient Notes
- Frozen Bananas – The easiest way to freeze bananas is to slice them and lay them flat on a cookie sheet, then freeze until solid. Once they are frozen, place the banana slices into ziploc bags and store in the freezer until you need to use them. I let them thaw for just a few minutes before I toss them in the blender so that they blend more easily.
- Non-Dairy Milk – Feel free to use any non-dairy milk that works for your dietary needs. Rice milk, oat milk, flax milk, soy milk, or any other plant based milk will work well here.
- Sunbutter – We love to make these shakes with sunbutter, but if you have a different seed butter that you prefer, feel free to use that. If you don’t have nut allergies, you can use your favorite nut butter.
Step by Step Instructions
- Place the frozen bananas, non-dairy milk, and sunbutter in a blender.

- Blend until smooth and creamy.

- Pour into a glass and top with melted dairy free chocolate chips if desired.

Sunbutter Banana Milkshake.
Ingredients
- 2 frozen bananas cut into coins
- 2 Tablespoons sunbutter or any seed butter or nut butter of your choice
- ½ cup non-dairy milk
- 2 Tablespoons dairy free chocolate chips optional
Instructions
- Let the frozen banana coins thaw for a few minutes so that they will be easier to blend.
- Place the banana coins, sunbutter, and non-dairy milk in a blender and blend until smooth. Add a bit more non-dairy milk if mixture is too thick.
- Pour milkshakes into one glass, or two smaller glasses if you are making kid-sized servings.
- If you want to top this with chocolate, heat the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl for about 50 seconds, or until melted. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the milkshake. Enjoy!

Using frozen bananas as the ice is so smart! This milkshake will be happening soon in our house : )

My favorite part about ordering a milkshake from a restaurant is the fact that they give you that metal flask with the rest of the milkshake that won’t fit in the glass, so that you’re eating like a year’s supply of ice cream in one sitting, ha! Anyhoo, I absolutely LOVE shakes, and prefer using banana and either almond or coconut milk these days. Gotta keep things healthy, ya know?! I’m loving this peanut butter idea you’ve got going on – I must make this shake for dessert tonight!
Kelly
I know! I loved that huge metal cup thing! As a kid, I always felt like I was really living the high life with that much milkshake to drink! :)

Oh yea, I definitely miss those days drinking milkshakes out of a metal cup. I hardly drink milkshakes anymore! I do LOVE adding frozen bananas to my drinks though. I need to try this milkshake this weekend!

This milkshake sounds amazing, Kelly! Peanut butter and bananas are pretty much the best combo ever!
