Chex cereal is coated in chocolate, sunbutter, and powdered sugar to make this a deliciously addictive treat!
Well, it’s Super Bowl Sunday in just two days. That snuck up on me! Not that I have any big plans or anything…we’re not really football people. More like music nerds. :) Anyway, I thought I would share a favorite, EASY, kid-friendly snack just in case you need something to whip up for a Super Bowl party. Or even if you just want to whip it up for yourself.
We love muddy buddies. I have fond memories of making this snack in high school and college, and eating wayyyy more of it than I would be comfortable doing now! :) I love making this for my boys to enjoy, using sunbutter in place of peanut butter.
I know this isn’t a groundbreaking recipe or anything, but it is a family favorite, and I did want to share it with you! There are a couple of things you can do to make the original Chex recipe allergy friendly. The main thing is to use sunbutter, (or another seed butter), and the second thing is that I eliminate the butter. You could use vegan butter spread if you want, but I have never used any butter in all the years that I’ve made this, and I think it tastes great. Plus you lower the fat content if you skip the butter.
Allergy Friendly Muddy Buddies (Gluten Free, Nut Free).
- 9 cups corn or rice Chex cereal
- 1 1/4 cups dairy free chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup sunbutter
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Place the chocolate chips in a large microwave safe bowl and microwave for 60 seconds. Stir, then microwave for 15 second intervals until melted.
Add the sunbutter to the chocolate chips and stir until smooth.
Pour the Chex cereal into the bowl and stir until the cereal is covered.
Transfer the mixture into two large ziploc bags. Pour half of the powdered sugar into each bag, then seal the bags and shake well to coat.
Pour into a serving bowl or store in the bag.
What was your favorite childhood snack? Do you still make it today?
