Gluten Free Ingredients
If you’re going to be doing a lot of gluten free baking, you’ll need to have a good gluten free flour blend. There are a lot of gluten free blends available in the store. One brand that works well for cookies is Namaste Perfect Flour Blend. You can find it at Costco, Whole Foods, or on Amazon.
You can also make your own gluten free flour mix with a blend of rice flours, potato starch, and tapioca starch.
Some recipes call for grain free flours such as coconut flour or cassava flour. If the recipes does not specifically list there flours, I don’t recommend using them They won’t work the same way as a cup-for-cup gluten free flour blend.
Dairy Free Ingredients
If you’re going to be making dairy free desserts or other recipes, you’ll need to have a few dairy free substitutions on hand. You will probably need:
- Vegan Buttery Spread – We use Earth Balance Soy Free Vegan Buttery Spread. It works well in everything from cookies to cakes, to savory dishes like casseroles. The Earth Balance baking sticks are also a good choice.
- Non-Dairy Milk – Choose a neutral tasting non-dairy milk for making beverages and sauces. Plant based milks like coconut milk, oat milk, soy milk, and rice milk are usually good choices.
- Dairy Free Cheese – Some recipes, like creamy casseroles or cheesy dips will require some dairy free cheese. There are many brands and varieties of diary free cheese available today. Read my guide to dairy substitutions to learn more.
- Whipped Topping – There are a few brands of whipped topping that are similar to Cool Whip. We like So Delicious Coco Whip for topping pie, cake, or a cup of hot chocolate.
