This winter fruit salad is fresh, colorful, and lovely! This salad with apples, oranges, kiwi, and pomegranate is sure to chase the winter blues away!

I get a little sad in the winter months – many of my favorite fruits are in season in the summer months. Yes, you can still get strawberries and blueberries in the winter, but they really aren’t the same at all.
Making recipes with produce that’s in season is my solution to the winter recipe blues. Using citrus like blood oranges to make smoothies and frosted orange shortbread cookies is one way to keep things interesting in the cold weather.
You can still enjoy fruit salad in the winter – you just need to use fruit that’s in season! Things like apples, oranges, kiwi, and really any citrus will combine to make a delicious salad. The bright colors and fresh flavors of this seasonal fruit salad will certainly brighten up a grey morning!

Ingredient Notes
- Oranges – If you don’t want to use the canned mandarin oranges, you can use regular oranges or clementines. My son loves the canned mandarins, so we buy them from time to time.
- Pomegranate – I love the flavor and color that pomegranate arils (or seeds) add to this salad. Read my post on how to best peel and prepare a pomegranate if you aren’t familiar with this fruit.
- Kiwi – We love kiwi over here! I have made this with the green variety as well as the golden variety of kiwi. Either works well.

Oh dear! I am so sorry to hear about that! I hope you have a very speedy de-dampening of your house :( but Happy Birthday! Maybe you’ll just have to make it a birthday month to celebrate instead ;)
Kelly
Thanks, Katie! It could be much worse. We are just a little inconvenienced, that’s all!
Sarah@Whole and Heavenly Oven
Booo to a flood in your house! Hopefully it gets fixed asap so you can have an enjoyable late birthday!
And this salad? Holy gorgeous this is stunning! I love all the bright colors and how fresh it looks for being a winter fruit salad!
Kelly
Thank you so much, Sarah!

Oh dear. Our basement flooded last year, thanks to a flood outside that just started pouring in. Drying out a place is never fun, but it’s amazing what those (noisy) industrial fans can do! I’m glad your insurance is covering the new floor! Yay for blessings in disguise!
Kelly
Yes, the fans are quite effective! Sorry you had to deal with a flood, too! Not fun.

Happy Birthday! No fun! At least this fruit salad brightened it up….hopefully ;) XOXO

Happy birthday! It’s a bummer that you had to deal with that on your birthday, but, on the bright side, it could have been a lot worst, right? This fruit salad looks perfect for brightening up dreary winter days. Wishing you the happiest of birthdays (I think you should make it a weeklong celebration now to make up for that water heater breaking) and a fabulous year!
Kelly
Yes, it definitely could have been worse! It’s amazing how much damage water can cause. I can’t imagine if this had happened when we were not at home.
Natalie @ Tastes Lovely
Kelly! Oh no! That is not a very good birthday. How horrible that your water heater broke! Yikes. Thank goodness for insurance! And maybe it’s a good thing since you’ll be getting new floors! A nice little upgrade : )
Kelly
Yes, I am glad we are getting new floors! It’s just a little inconvenient right now, but that’s temporary! :)
Meme @ Living Well Kitchen
Oh no!! That happened to me last summer; luckily I was still awake but trying to mop up hot water at 10pm on a Sunday was the last thing I wanted to be doing haha.
Maybe you should just celebrate your birthday for the entire month of January instead of just the actual day ;)
This fruit salad looks delish!
Kelly
Oh, what a bummer! Sorry you had to deal with that, too!
Gayle @ Pumpkin 'N Spice
This salad looks gorgeous, Kelly! I love the kiwi and mandarin oranges in here. Definitely makes me forget that it’s winter outside!
Kelly
Thanks, Gayle!

Oh no! We had our upstairs bathroom flood into our kitchen about a year ago and it was no fun. Those big fans and dehumidifiers are so loud – ugh is right! I hope everything is back to normal soon.
Happy Birthday! I hope you get to do some celebrating with a special meal soon!
This is a gorgeous fruit salad! It would definitely brighten up my day. :)
Kelly
Thank you, Kristine! Yes, the fans are super loud! It’s crazy.
